Luxury designer label Giorgio Armani is the epitome of Italian, high-class men's fashion. Luxury certainly doesn’t come cheap. The exclusive Armani fashion brand is stocked in around 500 boutiques in 46 different countries. Its luxury empire not only covers the market for womenswear, menswear and children's fashion, but also sells home furnishings, perfumes, cosmetics, watches and jewellery. In addition, a book publisher, floristry business, catering establishments (cafes, sushi bar, confectionery, restaurants), hotels and spa resorts are also included under the Armani brand umbrella. The label’s logo, used from the very beginning of its creation, is a stylized eagle representing both the power and strength of the label.
The typical Armani style is classically elegant without being conservative. The “Armani Look” made the denim jacket socially acceptable. The designer himself perfectly describes his intentions: "My goal is to let people find and refine their own style through my clothes, without them becoming fashion victims." Armani fashion is timeless and always surprising. Unusual tailoring quickly becomes the next big trend. Richard Gere wears exclusively Armani in the film "An American Gigolo"; and in "The Untouchables," Kevin Costner and Sean Connery can both be spotted wearing Armani pieces.
Giorgio Armani, born in 1934 in Piacenza in Italy, spoke French but no English, and studied medicine before quitting his studies and trying his hand at window dressing. He rose through the ranks of the Milan department store, becoming head of the men's department and later became a designer for Nino Cerruti. He founded his own label in 1975 with his partner Sergio Galeotti and added Emporio Armani - a second, sportier line in 1981. When Galeotti died of AIDS in 1985, Giorgio Armani became the sole owner of his empire. Today he still holds the reins of the company, in the role of chief designer, but has been looking for a buyer for the five billion Euro company since 2007. The master himself almost exclusively wears jeans and T-shirts and is exceedingly elegant and stylish. He is known for his frugal character, but also as one of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th century.
