Which Glasses Colours Suit Green Eyes?

Green eyes are naturally striking. The right frame colour can make your green eyes look even more captivating. Glasses in all shades of green work well, but complementary colours can make green eyes really pop. Since green and red are opposite each other on the colour wheel, the following colours beautifully accentuate green eyes:

  • Bright Red

  • Vibrant Orange

  • Mystical Violet and Berry Tones

  • Rich Pink

  • Warm Copper and Rust Tones

  • Classic Black

  • Elegant Gold

  • Earthy Beige and Brown Tones

Tip: These colours are also great for eye makeup to enhance green eyes.

How Do Green Eyes Develop?

Your eye colour is determined by the genes and eye colours of your parents. Brown is the most common and dominant colour, followed by green, blue, and finally grey. [Source: 1]

However, genes aren't the only factor. The colour of the iris (the coloured part of the eye) is influenced by the amount of melanin, a pigment ranging from brown to reddish. The more melanin in the iris, the darker the eye colour:

  • More melanin results in darker eyes. Brown eyes have a high concentration of melanin.

  • Less melanin results in lighter eyes. Green, blue, and grey eyes are due to lower melanin concentrations in the iris.

There Are Many Types of Green Eyes

Green eyes come in many shades: green-brown, green-grey, green-blue, emerald green, and even green with a yellow tint. Sometimes, each eye can be a different colour, a condition known as heterochromia. This term refers to two different eye colours or irregularly coloured eyes and is usually harmless. However, any changes should be checked by an eye specialist.

How Many People Have Green Eyes?

Studies [Source: 2] show that the majority of the world’s population has brown eyes – about 90 percent! Only 8 percent of people worldwide have blue or grey eyes, making green the rarest eye colour at less than 2 percent. Green eyes are more common in Northern and Central European countries.

Regarding heterochromia, it is found in only about 1 percent of the world’s population. This phenomenon occurs in humans as well as certain breeds of dogs and cats.
