Dolce & Gabbana in the Mister Spex online store

In 1985 in Legnano, a small northern Italian town near Milan, fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana founded the fashion label Dolce & Gabbana. Initially a design consultancy, the business expanded rapidly and developed into the world's most famous fashion house. Domenico Dolce displayed the first signs of a talent for fashion at the age of six, when he began to design his own clothes. The first joint collection, presented at Milan Fashion Week, was completed in the year that Dolce & Gabbana was founded. The following year, the brand’s first store was opened in the fashion capital. Shortly afterwards, the label signed a contract with the Kashiyama group and opened its first boutique in Japan. The international launch brought the duo global fame.

When Madonna wore one of the luxury brand’s outfits at the premiere of Truth or Dare, Dolce & Gabbana gained international prominence. Since then, the popstar and the label have enjoyed many years of collaboration. For her Girlie Show tour, more than 1,500 costumes were designed by Dolce & Gabbana. Other stars are also passionate followers of the label, including Kylie Minogue, Ben Affleck, Selena Gomez, Adien Brody and Helen Mirren. Costumes for musicians such as Missy Elliot, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars are also a regular occurrence. Since 2004, the Italian national football team has been dressed by Dolce & Gabbana and Milan Fashion Week has become second home to the fashion label, where it presents its stylish designer pieces annually.

In1994, Domenico and Stefano launched a second line – aimed at younger customers - under the name D&G. The brand enjoys cult status in both Italy and beyond and owns boutiques worldwide including stores in Paris, New York, Barcelona, Dubai, Jakarta, Hong Kong and San Paolo. D&G has been recognised on numerous occasions for its unique design style.
