Jil Sander at Mister Spex
Designer Jil Sander’s career began in 1968 with the opening of an exclusive fashion boutique in Hamburg Pöselsdorf. Previously, the textiles engineer worked as an editor for several fashion magazines. In 1973, she created her first collection. Her breakthrough came with the invention of the “Onion Look”, the forerunner of the layered look. Her name became so well-known thanks to the success of the collection, that Jil Sander founded her own label under her name in 1978. In the early 80s, Sander finally developed the look that is associated with her name around the world. With simplicity, clarity in the tailoring and the absence of fussy details, she created the new business look for women - a classic look still seen in offices around the world today: the Jil Sander trouser suit with a white shirt and trenchcoat in muted tones. Around the same time, the Jil Sander care range and the successful and award-winning Jil Sander perfume series were launched. She designed her first men's collection in 1997.p>
In 2004, after a three-year hiatus, Jil Sander finally stepped down from the company. Today, the Jil Sander brand is owned by a British investment company. The chief designer is Raf Simons, who has succeeded in maintaining the Sander look. The label is still recognised for its timeless, deliberately simple and elegant fashion, with a minimalist approach - a style which is often referred to as typically German. In addition to the women's collection and a men's collection, cosmetic products and accessories are also available to purchase Jil Sander glasses.
