The first spectacle frames in the 15th century were mostly made of wood, horn or leather. In the 18th century, metal was then increasingly used, initially mainly brass or iron. In the aristocracy, ladies in particular appreciated distinguished spectacle frames made out of silver or gold. Metal glasses are therefore among the classics among spectacle frames. Nowadays, stainless steel is usually used as the basic material, as it is robust and flexible. Titanium is lighter and therefore more comfortable to wear. Since it is nickel-free, it is also suitable for allergy sufferers. Titanium is more precious than stainless steel, therefore titanium glasses are correspondingly more expensive.
Metal glasses are available in a wide variety of designs, so there is the right glasses for every type and every shape of face. Many very classic models such as rimless glasses or narrow, angular frames are available with metal frames. But also slightly more trendy eyewear designs such as panto glasses, aviators or cat eye frames can be found at Mister Spex with metal frames. A combination of plastic and metal frames is also popular. All the well-known designers such as Ray Ban, Oakley, BOSS Orange or Mexx are represented in the metal eyewear range.
In general, metal glasses are well suited if you have a narrow face and delicate features. In this case metal frames are less obtrusive than plastic frames, for example. You can easily find out which model suits you best with our filter options: select on the left side whether you are looking for ladies' or men's glasses, what shape of face you have and how wide your face is. We will then suggest the right glasses for you. As a general rule, if your face is oval or round, you should choose a frame with rather narrow, angular lenses. If your face is angular or heart-shaped, round or curved models are ideal.
