Prada at Mister Spex

Fratelli Prada (Prada Brothers) was founded in Milan in 1913 by Mario Prada, selling home-made leather goods such as bags and handbags. In 1978, Miuccia Prada, the granddaughter of the founder, took over the company and started the company's expansion, which paved the way for its internationally-renowned label. Miuccia Prada managed to revive the almost-forgotten brand with her unerring sense of fashion and social trends, transforming the formerly-staid leather goods company into one of the world's leading fashion empires in just a few years.

The designer wowed the fashion world with her creativity and courage to take on new fabrics and forms. The 1985 handbag collection made from parachute nylon and belonging to her first prêt-à-porter collection was so highly sought-after that it is still one of the most counterfeited goods worldwide. In 1989, Prada launched its women's fashion line for the sophisticated customer, and a short while afterwards its first menswear collection was presented. Finally famous, the brand became known in the mid-90s for its so-called "bad taste" look. Loud colours and thick-lensed glasses were renamed under the beautiful name of "Prada ugly". Miuccia Prada won several fashion and design awards and, with her intellectual understanding of the fashion world, achieved great business success. Numerous Prada stores in the major boulevards of the world and successful “Prada Universe” brands testify to the success of the brand.

Prada is still at the forefront of contemporary fashion brands today. In addition to women's and men's collections, sub-brands such as Miu Miu and Prada Sport create fashion for the young, urban middle class. Numerous fashion accessories are now also available from the label. The core business has remained true to its brand with the sale of shoes, bags and leather goods.
