Modern contact lenses are made out of highly functional materials that have a positive effect on both the oxygen supply to the eye and its moisture balance. The improved oxygen permeability of the lenses allows your eyes to breathe deeply - for a pleasant fresh feeling. Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses are among the best tolerated lenses currently available on the market. Why this is the case and what you should pay attention to when taking care of your silicone hydrogel contact lenses is explained in the following guidebook.
If you like to wear contact lenses regularly, then you are probably aware of the effect that the wearing comfort can decrease in the course of the day. The first reason for this is the increasing contamination of the lens by the protein-containing tear film and the dust and dirt that gets into the eye during the day. Another factor is the contact lens itself, because less oxygen reaches the eye through it. In addition, there is the supply of water. Contact lenses absorb some of the tear fluid and dry out the eyes more quickly. Many contact lens wearers therefore remove their lenses after wearing them for about eight hours. With Silicone-Hydrogel contact lenses you are buying a real high-tech product that eliminates many wearing problems.
The extra oxygen means you enjoy improved comfort with longer wearing times and reduced risk. The risk of irritation and infection is reduced and your eyes look whiter and healthier.
For your eye to be optimally supplied, it needs oxygen and plenty of water. If one of these two components is missing, the eye reacts with dryness, redness and pain. Conventional contact lenses, such as those made out of hydrogel, are already quite well tolerated, but they should be removed from the eye after eight to ten hours of wear. Silicone hydrogel contact lenses, on the other hand, can be left in the eye for up to 14 hours ─, provided that the wearing comfort is maintained for that long. In any case, please contact your optician or ophthalmologist in advance for a contact lens fitting.
By the way: the oxygen permeability is indicated with the DK value, which for silicone hydrogel lenses is between 100 and 200 dk/t and corresponds to about 98% permeability.
